Greater Los Angeles Construction Hike for Hope
Los Angeles, CA – NAWIC LA has announced its participation in the Greater Los Angeles Construction Hike for Hope, an event organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention efforts, with a special focus on the construction industry.
The hike is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in South El Monte, California. On-site registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the program starting at 9:30 a.m. The family-friendly event will include a resource area, photo booth, children’s activities, honor beads, and a Hope & Healing area where participants can share messages of hope and remembrance.
NAWIC LA, Chapter #42, has long championed the advancement of women in construction through networking, mentorship, leadership development, and community outreach. By joining the Hike for Hope, the chapter is extending its mission to address critical mental health challenges facing the industry.
Construction occupations have some of the highest suicide rates according to CDC data, with an estimated twelve construction workers dying by suicide daily across the United States. The Greater Los Angeles Construction Hike for Hope aims to break the stigma, promote open conversations about mental health, and empower “mental health champions” within the workforce through education, intervention, and postvention strategies.
Participation in the event is open to construction workers, their families, friends, loved ones, and the wider community—no industry affiliation is required. There is no registration fee or fundraising minimum, though participants are encouraged to raise $150 or more by June 13 to receive a commemorative Hike for Hope t-shirt and other gifts. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for companies and organizations looking to demonstrate their commitment to employee mental health.
