Building a Stronger Future — Together
We’re here to support, educate, and empower women working across every corner of the construction industry — from project management and estimating to design, engineering, and the trades.
Whether you’re just starting out or leading teams on-site, NAWIC LA offers connection, mentorship, and opportunity — helping women build lasting careers and break barriers in one of the nation’s most vital industries.
Women in Construction: The Latest Numbers
Women make up nearly half of the U.S. workforce — yet in construction, representation still lags far behind.
The numbers tell a powerful story of progress, perseverance, and possibility.
11%
of the construction workforce are women; only 4% work directly on job sites.
18%
of management / professional roles are held by women (vs 51% across the U.S. workforce).
12%
of construction workers have access to paid family leave.
47%
of the total U.S. workforce are women.
How Far We’ve Come
Women’s participation has grown 44% since 2015, adding over 400,000 workers.
Representation climbed from 9% to 11%, fueled by stronger recruitment and new pathways into leadership roles.
The Roles We Play
Around 65% of women in construction work in management or administrative roles, but only 4% are in the trades.
Just 12% have access to paid family leave — a sign that inclusion must extend beyond hiring.
Looking Ahead
With the industry expected to grow 3–4% annually, and a shortage of over 500,000 skilled workers, opportunity is on the rise.
Programs like the WANTO grants are helping more women lead, build, and shape the future of construction.
