  • Kitchell Courtyard 18575 Jamboree Road Irvine, CA, 92612 United States (map)

Join us for a night of celebration for our Women In Construction Week! Our Keynote speaker, City of Irvine Mayor Farrah N. Khan!

Executive Director of Thomas House Family Shelter (Thomas House) Shakoya Green, and Executive Director of The Shepphard's Nest Kim Anthony - Morrow. We will feature our Orange County Chapter Leader Lynne MacVean, CEO of Mammoth Electric. Great place to invite strategic partners and colleagues.

Mayor Farrah N. Khan made history in November of 2020 becoming the 23rd Mayor of Irvine. She not only received the highest number of votes for the position of Mayor in the city’s history, but also shattered glass ceilings as the first woman of color to hold the position, and the first Muslim woman to lead a large city in the United States. Mayor Khan grew up in northern California and began her career in the biotech and innovation industry as a regulatory manager focusing on streamlining complex products and international research. She and her family moved to Irvine in 2004 where her two sons have had the privilege of attending Irvine schools since kindergarten. She and her husband also serve as Legacy Partners with the Irvine Public School Foundation. Mayor Khan is focused on ensuring that the City of Irvine is a leader throughout Orange County and California when it comes to innovation and technology, maintaining a healthy environment, combating climate change, and protecting the health and wellness of Irvine’s diverse communities. In her short time as Mayor, she has initiated several new strategies leading to Irvine becoming the first City in Orange County to spearhead COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics in local neighborhoods and senior centers, passed HERO pay for frontline grocery workers, created a new committee focused on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and adopted a resolution with strategies to support achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.

Shakoya Green, Executive Director

Thomas House Family Shelter (Thomas House) was founded in 1986 by Mary and Bernie Selz, Orange County residents who wanted to help the growing number of unhoused families with children in our community by providing a safe place to live and building self-sufficiency. For 36 years, Thomas House has remained steadfast in its mission to provide a safe, supportive environment and the resources necessary for homeless and at-risk families with children to stay together while empowering them to become independent and self-sufficient. Our core values are at the root of our services: "Empowerment, Love, and Accountability." Our two core programs—Transitional Shelter and Supportive Services and Homeless Prevention Services empower approximately 60 families, including 150 children and youth, annually in Orange County, Calif., to become independent and self-sufficient.

Thomas House meets the needs of unhoused families with children by providing an unprecedented continuum of high-quality services and supports that effectively address and ameliorate issues while keeping residents safe, healthy, and on track to independence and self-sufficiency.

Kim Anthony-Morrow’s, CEO, Executive Director dedication to supporting and advocating for the unhoused is inspired by her own lived experience of housing insecurity as an emancipated foster youth. She found herself on a bus bench with $120 to her name and the directions to the local welfare office. She gathered her resolve, laced-up her bootstraps and committed to “re-raising” herself in the hope of building a life that she could one day like herself for. She went on to find entrepreneurial success as the founding publisher of the Urban Business Journal, now celebrating it 20th year, and as founder of the Urban Excellence Foundation, a nonprofit training, development and coaching organization dedicated to building socioeconomic mobility in under-resourced communities. Alongside her husband Tommy, she co-founded the Sheppard’s Nest, a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing dignity-informed supportive housing for low-income senior women in South Los Angeles.
